Rural House Architecture

Designing a home in a rural setting requires a different approach.

The relationship to landscape, light, and setting becomes central — not just in how the house looks, but in how it feels to live in over time.

We work with private clients across Scotland to design new homes and remodel existing buildings in rural locations.

Responding to place

Each project begins with understanding the site:

  • how the land sits

  • how light moves across it

  • where views open and close

  • and how the building should relate to its surroundings

The aim is not to impose a design, but to create something that feels appropriate, balanced, and grounded in its setting.

A clear and supported process

Rural projects often bring additional complexity:

  • planning constraints

  • infrastructure considerations

  • and greater uncertainty early on

Our role is to bring clarity to that process — helping you make confident decisions and carrying those decisions through to completion.

How we work

We remain closely involved throughout:

  • shaping the brief

  • establishing a clear direction

  • resolving the design

  • and staying involved during construction

Who we work with

We work on a small number of carefully considered homes across Scotland, typically with construction values from £750,000 to £2m+.
